THE 2010 OLYMPIC GAMES - ISES Toronto Coverage

Regal Tent

"No way!", "Rad!", "Totally epic!". Things you'd expect to hear at the top of the snowboarding mountains at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. But they've also been used to describe some of the temporary venues around town. Regal Tent Productions has debuted 4 incredible, slang-inducing products to the Canadian market during these Great Games:

Double decker tent
For a major Olympics sponsor, Regal constructed a double floor structure with an exclusive level for VIPs that gave attendees a raised vantage point of the main floor revelry and breathtaking views of David Lam Park!

Flat-top tent
This same client wanted a tent that in no way looked like a tent. Since one of the distinguishing features of a tent is the peaked roof and gabled ends, a custom facade was created to mask the roof - creating what looked like a flat top tent (with all the functionality of a peaked roof)!

Ballast-free flooring
One of the most amazing inventions to hit the temporary structure industry has to be Regal's new heavy duty floor. Imagine never having to use unsightly concrete weights or inconvenient stakes again. The floor actually worked to weigh the tent down so no additional ballasts or stakes were required.

Insulated hard walls
Although Vancouver can seem tropical to many other cities around Canada, in order to help one of their clients cut down on heating costs, Insulated Hard Walls were installed. These walls were used not only to cocoon the guests from the elements, but also to help minimize noise between broadcasting rooms within the Olympic Broadcasting Services structure.

"No way!", "Rad!", "Totally epic!". Tenting reinvented.

Chair Décor and the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games

Although the Olympic Games are a celebration of athletic achievement, whenever the world gathers together there are other festivities as well. Chair Décor, through its Vancouver location, has supplied many of the Olympic gatherings with specialty linen and chair covers to capture the spirit of the hosting sponsor.

Czech House was housed in one of the finer hotels in the city. The entire hotel was bought out by the country of Czechoslovakia to host their dignitaries, athletes' families and friends. They even imported their own chefs and local beer. They gathered in the hotel's ballroom to cheer on and celebrate their athletes. Chair Décor supplied spandex chairs covers and linen in their national colours.

The IOC hosted daily gatherings in their hotel. Due to security concerns the hotel elected to purchase and launder the linens in house. Chair Décor was chosen as the source for the linens they purchased. Chair Décor also serviced the Air Canada Hospitality Suite, Samsung, GE and a number of other corporate gatherings.

CCR Solutions with Bill Guest

I had a wonderful time with my family at the Olympics! This photo was taken in front Hockey House just prior to the Canadian Men's 1st Hockey Game against Norway. The energy in the arena was absolutely incredible!

Overall, I think Vancouver and Canada did an amazing job hosting the Games. Sure there were some challenges. As we're all in the Live Event business, we of all people know that despite our best intentions and months of planning, things don't always go smoothly. The key to running a successful event is how you deal with the unanticipated problems. And I think the organizing committee responded quickly and professionally, and should be commended on running a spectacular Winter Olympic Games. Go Canada Go!!
